Kirkpatrick British Black Iron
Hinges & Brackets are proud to supply and be associated with, Kirkpatrick of Walsall. We only stock Kirkpatrick antique iron products, such as window stays, fasteners, catches, latches, hinges, brackets, knobs and knockers, and not any inferior imported copies. When Hinges & Brackets was started in 1985 and it was soon decided that the business would aim to gain a reputation for its quality of ironmongery and mainly well made British designs for British houses.. So we have always stuck with Kirkpatrick, because of the durability of its traditionally made ironwork.
Iron Casting
Kirkpatrick still make malleable iron by hand casting pieces at its Walsall foundry. See the mini video below to see ‘a pour’ in action. Still done in the same way as in Victorian times, when Kirkpatrick first started making iron hardware in traditional patterns copied from vernacular designs.

British made Brassware
Hinges & Brackets stock and supply English brassware from companies such as Frank Allart, Croft Architectural Hardware, Brassart, and other smaller manufacturers. Because English brass is made ‘fresh’ from virgin brass, the quality of the base material is much better than when brass is remelted from scrap, and impurities creep in, as is often the case with foreign cheaper imports.
Finishing is more meticulous with English Brass, so that a better polish or higher quality plating is achieved, meaning the product will survive the test of time better.
When Hot Stamping is used to make a fitting, the engineering tolerances are more accurate leading to a better functioning product.
Locks
We mainly deal in branded British named locks from such firms as ERA, Chubb(now Yale and Union) , Legge and Banham where we can trust the quality and be sure that things will fit and last.
Pewter
For the proper supply of good Pewter fittings for around the home , we stick with British firms such as Finesse Fittings and Stonebridge with their excellent range of lead free pewter cabinet and door handles.
